Film screening
-
This year, during Museum Night, we will offer two film screenings showcasing two opposing poles of cinema.
- The nighttime screenings will begin at 8:15 PM with a screening of 13 short films from 1898-1907 (50 minutes) by Alice Guy, the first female director of feature films in the history of cinema.
- It was Alice Guy who suggested to Léon Gaumont that he abandon the recording of simple moving images in favor of short, staged narratives. Her permission to direct was unprecedented in a profession then exclusively reserved for men. Until 1907, Alice Guy reigned supreme over Gaumont's production as director, art director, and screenwriter, experimenting with cinematic tricks and special effects.
- At 9:30 PM, we'll be showing Eat the Night (2024), the final feature film by Jonathan Vinel and Caroline Poggi, who incorporate video game aesthetics into their films. The French directorial duo's achievements divide audiences into loyal fans who enthusiastically observe the development of cinematic expression, and scoffers who consider their work unworthy of the title of tenth muse.
- The screenings are co-organized by the French Institute in Warsaw.
