MORNINGS IN MOTION
Body recovered

Open movement classes with Iza Szostak
  • Morning sessions are an invitation to reconnect with the body to movement, which allows us to discover, experience, and surprise ourselves. Through sensory-based activities (sight, touch, and hearing) and conscious movement tasks, we will explore how the body responds, remembers, and creates. Instead of dividing observation and action, we will attempt to combine them, treating movement as a way of thinking, feeling, and communicating. Exercises will stimulate imagination, creativity, and mindfulness, opening up a space for exploring new qualities of movement and the body's unconventional possibilities. This workshop is for those curious about movement, presence, and creative experimentation.
    • Referring to the concept of "Movement to the Future," we will approach dance as a form of self-care and shared, analogue being. The goal will be a practice that improves circulation, clarifies thoughts, and alleviates everyday tensions, while simultaneously developing fitness and endurance.
  • The starting point will be methods derived from postmodern contemporary dance, release techniques, and improvisation. We will focus on movement based on flow, working with weight, breath, and relationship to gravity. We will strengthen the body through precision, economy of effort, and conscious distribution of energy, developing stability, mobility, and core activity. We will work solo, in duos, and in groups, learning to be mindful of ourselves and others in our space. Morning exercise will become a form of physical and mental hygienea regular practice that organizes, strengthens, and supports daily functioning.

  • About the instructor

    • Iza Szostak
      • choreographer, dancer, and performer. In her artistic practice, she draws on the premises of new materialism, which allows her to perceive matter as an active and agentive force, and to base her choreographic works on a constructed system of communication between body and object. As her material, she uses processed images from the fields of visual arts and film, anthropological research, a private video archive, and her own biography. In her performances, she explores hybrid forms: the body appears as both costume and mediuma carrier of emotional states. For her, choreography is an instrument for creating a new order. She is a graduate of the Ballet School in Warsaw and CodartsRotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. She studied at the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology in Warsaw. She has worked in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Poland. She is the author of the performances Trapeze, RE//MIXMerce Cunningham, Ciało. Dziecko. Obiekt, Europa. Śledztwo, Balet koparyczny, National Affairs, PRIV, le journal secret, and Skaj Is the Limit. For many years, she has closely collaborated with audiovisual artist Kuba Słomkowski. As an educator, she has worked with numerous cultural institutions, including Instytut Teatralny, CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, Galeria Zachęta, and Teatr Studio Galerii.
