What We Do in the Shadows
directed by Taika Waititi, New Zealand 2014
Viago (aged 379), Deacon (aged 183), Vladislav (aged 862) and Petyr (aged 8000) are living together in the suburbs of modern Wellington, New Zealand. They are active only after dark, when they leave their coffins and lairs to face everyday life, which also turns out to be challenging for vampires. Immortality and the thirst for fresh human blood have long ceased to be their main problems, as modern times pose new challenges. A group of filmmakers follows them during their daily chores, minor arguments and nights out on the town, all of which, with intelligent humour, show us that although their hearts stopped beating centuries ago, they still harbour warm and very human feelings.
