Essay, found footage and other hybrid films
A talk regarding the new issue of "Kwartalnik Filmowy" ["Film Quarterly"] and the screening of the film by Jean-Luc Godard The Image Book
A film essay, a film using found footage, a montage film, a photofilm, video essay and other such hybrid audiovisual forms are always located on the border: between a documentary film and a story, between one's own creation and the authorship of others, between storytelling and self-reflection. They combine media, techniques, are a constant experiment, an eternal test, an eruption of the internal need to create on the one hand, and a cinephile passion on the other. The last, 104th issue of "Kwartalnik Filmowy" was devoted to such non-obvious forms. Authors of the texts found inside tried to unearth the bridges connecting them, determine their transient nature, as well as find a language and context for their description. The latest film by Jean-Luc Godard is a perfect springboard for discussing cinema's self-consciousness, about how it feeds from itself, and about what these hybrid phenomena tell us about the creation of film. Paulina Kwiatkowska, Gabriela Sitek, Paulina Haratyk, and Karolina Kosińska will take part in the talk before the screening.
