The beginning of the 18th century. England is at war with the French, but the attention of the court is absorbed by duck racing and the emergence of pineapples on the market. The sickly Queen Anne (Academy Award winner Olivia Colman) sits on the throne, and the country is ruled not by her but by her close friend, Lady Sarah (Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz). With admirable devotion, she looks after the eager and impetuous queen. A new servant Abigail arrives at the court (Academy Award winner Emma Stone). A flourishing friendship with the queen gives Abigail a chance to fulfill her ambitions. The girl comes to the conclusion that she will not let anyone or anything—whether it be a woman, a man, a politician, or a rabbit—stand in her way.
