Haemocyanin
directed by Tuomas A. Laitinen, Finland 2019, 8’
An octopus, whose supple body is filled with blood tinged blue by oxygen-carrying copper, explores glass structures crafted and placed in their aquarium by the filmmaker. What makes some shapes more titillating to the cephalopod, while they find others to be rather unstimulating?
Tuomas A. Laitinen’s film invites the viewer to take a closer look and consider the perspective of a non-human intelligence – an entity neither hostile nor amicable toward the human, which could be as much self-interested and/or disinterested in the viewer, as it may be communicating through elaborate glyphs.
