{Night.Cinema}: Chris Marker – SF evening

La jetée
12
Monkeys
The Terminator

  • The November night cinema will be devoted to Chris Marker. Although the screenings will feature mostly film essays depicting the political engagement of cinema, we must remember the French artist as a figure who has had great influence on the history of cinema, including science fiction. As an inspiration for big-budget classics of SF cinema – 12 Monkeys by Terry Gilliam and James Cameron's Terminator – mentioned is the modest (in comparison to the Hollywood productions) masterpiece of Marker’s La Jetée. This is a love story unfolding in the distant future, after a disaster, narrated by still images. Without this half-hour film, the history of cinema would look very different.
