Little Amélie or the Character of Rain
What if every problem could be solved with a piece of white chocolate? Here is a world where anything is possible — and a story about embracing life to the fullest.
Amelia, a little Belgian girl born in Japan, did not speak a single word or take a single step until she was two and a half years old. It is only a visit from her grandmother from the distant homeland, and a certain unexpected event connected with it, that awakens in the girl a powerful desire to discover the world here and now without rules, without boundaries.
Every day, more and more thoughts and questions swirl in the mind of little Amelia, who suddenly begins to speak and walk. Who am I? Where do I come from? Why is things the way they are? She dispels these doubts with the help of her nanny, who introduces her to Japanese legends and customs of the Far East, while preparing for the O-bon festival, when the spirits of ancestors come alive and lanterns float upon the water. Amelia discovers the beauty of the surrounding nature, changing with the seasons.
In this poetic animated film, Japanese culture intertwines with Belgian sensibility, and laughter blends with emotion. It is a visual feast that invites you to rediscover the meaning of life. A warm feeling in your heart after the screening — guaranteed!
