Swallow
directed by Carlo Mirabella-Davis, France/USA 2019, 104' (English friendly)
Hunter’s life is – at first glance – idyllic. The woman has a rich, handsome, loving and influential husband; they live in a beautiful house. Hunter doesn’t have to work, she can take care of the house and be the perfect wife of the perfect husband – especially since she has recently gotten pregnant. The issue is, that Hunter’s irresistible urge does not match this idyllic picture. It started with eating... a glass ball, then a pushpin, a battery and other items that are certainly not edible. Hunter will have to confront the dark mystery that hides behind her obsession. Swallow, a mixture of thriller and satire, raises questions about the patriarchal control of the female body, identity, guilt, and violence. What exactly do idyllic facades really hide?
