Wild at Heart

Od–jazd Film Club meeting

  • North Carolina. The young rebel Sailor Ripley is paroled after two years in prison for murder committed in the heat of passion and reunites with his sweetheart Lula. However, Lula's mother, who is against this relationship, decides to do everything to drive Sailor away from her beloved daughter. Sailor and Lula decide to run away and find happiness in faraway Texas. What they don't realise is that Lula's mother has hired killers to chase them…
    • Anything is possible in the world created by David Lynch. A mixture of various inspirations and styles makes Wild at Heart a key example of cinematographic postmodernism. Loved by some, hated by others. When the film was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival, half the audience gave it a standing ovation, the other half booed and whistled. More than 30 years after its premiere, viewers are still arguing about whether Wild at Heart is a primitive example of artistic kitsch or one of the breakthrough works of contemporary cinema.
  • What is camp style?
  • What is a puzzle movie?
  • What do we love and hate David Lynch for?
    • We will try to answer these and many other questions together with our club's expert, dr Ewa Szponar (PhD). We invite you to the screening and discussion, during which you will be able to ask questions and share your ideas on how to interpret the film. What do you think Wild at Heart is about? We want to hear your opinion!
