Proxima
directed by Alice Winocour, France 2019, 107'
Sara is an astronaut. She is the only woman taking part in a demanding training programme by the European Space Agency. Every day, subjected to testing in the extreme conditions of a spacecraft under the control of machinery and specialists, she trains the endurance of her body. Her everyday life consists of more than just the murderous training – she must also constantly prove to the male members of the crew that she deserves a place on the team. At home, she drops the suit and becomes the mother of 7-year-old Stella. When she qualifies for the “Proxima” mission, her life really begins to get complicated. As an astronaut, she is ready to make her dreams come true and fly into space. As a mother, she is afraid of being separated from her daughter. Every decision is good and bad at the same time. A trip into space turns out to be less challenging than ordinary life on Earth.
