Sound of Freedom. Dźwięk wolności
[Sound of Freedom] directed by Alejandro Monteverde, USA 2023, 135'
One of the greatest phenomena of modern cinema! Withheld by mainstream distributors, it sat on the shelf for five years. Thanks to a public collection and the mobilisation of thousands of viewers, it was released in early July in USA and turned the summer box office upside down. Without the typical Hollywood million-dollar promotion, but with the viral opinion that it was “a film that everyone should see”, it climbed to the top of the ratings and viewing charts.
Sound of Freedom is the true story of Tim Ballard (played by The Passion of the Christ star Jim Caviezel), a former US government agent who gives up his job and dedicates his life to saving children from a fate worse than death. Despite the subject matter, the filmmakers do not shock with drastic scenes, and build the emotional charge of the message in a subtle, yet explicit way. Perhaps this was the reason behind such excellent ratings from the viewers and their huge involvement in the bottom-up promotion of the work. Alongside Caviezel, in the role of Katherine Ballard, we see Oscar winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) and Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit, Joker, Lincoln) playing Vampiro, Ballard’s main sidekick.
