The Good Sister
[Schwesterherz] directed by Sarah Miro Fischer, Germany/ Spain 2025, 96'
- Following a turbulent breakup, Rose (played by Marie Bloching) decides to move in with her older brother, Samuel (Anton Weil). However, their relationship—built on closeness and mutual support—is soon put to a severe test. Rose is shocked when, one day, she receives a summons to testify in a deeply disturbing case.
- The subject of the investigation is an allegation of rape that Samuel is said to have committed against another woman. In an instant, the young protagonist's world is turned upside down. She finds it difficult to accept that her beloved brother, with whom she shares such a deep bond, could be capable of such an act. Stunned, Rose must confront the situation and the image of Samuel she has cultivated over the years. A question arises: what is more important—female solidarity and staying true to one's values, or family ties, regardless of the circumstances?
- Sarah Miro Fischer's debut film focuses on the intimate relationship between siblings, but also on how we construct idealized versions of those closest to us. The German director further explores how to speak about trauma when it strikes from a completely unexpected direction.
