- Robert Eggers, author of The Witch and Lighthouse, a director fond of resurrecting bygone eras, this time invites us to a medieval world, barbaric and full of superstition.
- Young prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) is about to become a man when his father, king Aurvandill War-Raven (Ethan Hawke), is brutally murdered by his uncle Fjölnir (Claes Kasper Bang), who also kidnaps the boy’s mother, Princess Gudrún (Nicole Kidman). Fleeing his kingdom by boat, the child swears revenge. Twenty years later, Amleth is a Viking raiding Slavic villages, where a witch (Björk) reminds him of his vow: avenge his father, save his mother, kill his uncle. Travelling on a slave ship to Iceland, Amleth reaches his uncle’s farm with the help of Olga (Anya Taylor-Joy), an enslaved Slavic woman, and sets out to keep his vow.
