Bookshop at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art
Photobooks, artists' books, zines, publications about art
The concept of the new bookshop at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art arises from the needs of the artistic community, expectations of our audiences and our mission which is focused on fostering contemporary art. We regard the book as an important tool for presenting and analysing contemporary art. In the new bookshop you will find artist's books, photobooks, zines as well as publications about art and artists.
Designed by architect Maciej Siuda and visual artist Katarzyna Przezwańska, the space highlights both the building’s historic architecture and its contemporary exhibition profile. The ceilings and walls remain exposed, while a central wooden display table – shaped like an irregular landscape – showcases art books. Around it, visitors find open space to move, benches by the windows for reading, and a welcoming atmosphere for meetings and relaxation. The bookshop serves as a link between the entrance hall, the Workspace (where talks and workshops take place), and the exhibition galleries.
The bookshop's opening coincided with the Nobody Reads This: Art Book Fair (6—7 December 2025), held in adjacent spaces. Exhibitors' stands were located in the Marble Hall, while meetings with authors, designers and publishers were held in the Workspace. The event also showcased over 60 publications gathered through an open call for self-published artist's books – ranging from art books and photobooks to zines and paper objects. The fair was accompanied by film screenings in the Cinema, music events and workshops aimed at developing practical skills and encouraging own publishing experiments.
