Meeting with Sampling (BE/LV)
Background Check is an informal, intimate event dedicated to architecture — a guest lecture followed by a short Q&A and open discussion. We invite studios operating beyond the mainstream. We are interested in bold voices and topics that are rarely addressed in industry discourse.
Our meetings focus on design in the context of contemporary challenges: dwindling planetary resources, the carbon footprint of the construction industry, and its role in the climate crisis. We ask whether it is possible to build differently — in a way that is less harmful.
On 9 April, representatives of Sampling, a Belgian–Latvian interdisciplinary conceptual architecture and design studio based in Ghent and Riga, will present their work.
The meeting will not be recorded or broadcast, as we want to foster an atmosphere of honest conversation and attentive listening.
