Aurora Lubos
  • On 3 June, we invite you to Pracownia for a meeting with Aurora Lubos a Gdańsk-based performer, choreographer, and independent artist who has been connected to the Tri-City and British art scenes for more than 25 years. We will talk about Aurora Lubos’s long-standing artistic practice, her work with the body and movement, and projects developed at the intersection of art, social experience, and activism.

    • Since 2000, Aurora Lubos has collaborated with the British company Vincent Dance Theatre. She is the author of solo performances, performative works, installations, video pieces, short animations, and visual-textual broadcasts. Her practice combines choreography, performance, and social engagement.
  • Among her most important works are Akty a performance based on the stories of people who have experienced domestic violence; Z wody a performance realised on the beach in Sopot during the Day of Solidarity with Refugees; Witajcie/Welcome a work addressing the migration crisis of 2015, inspired by the artist’s stay at the Slovenian-Austrian border and by stories of people arriving in Europe across the Mediterranean Sea; and Lament a performance dedicated to the Gaza Strip and the experience of loss.
    • Since 2019, she has co-created the Arbuz Association, which works with refugees and people with limited access to education and art. Since 2021, she has also been involved in humanitarian aid activities at the Polish-Belarusian border, first with the Homo Faber Association and later with Grupa Granica. These experiences became the starting point for the works Postcards from the Border, Border, and Shelter, devoted to the humanitarian crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border.
  • {Live}
    • Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences.
      • We host both artists who have previously taken part in Ujazdowski Castle’s programme and those making their debut. In this series, we would like to focus on individual approaches and artistic practices.
  • Why take part?
    • The events will be recorded for archival purposes, and the recordings will be made available online through the Mediateka.
      • In times of tensions and crises, thinking and talking together about contemporary art  which responds to today’s challenges in unconventional ways  helps strengthen social resilience. Art is not only the object  just as important are the process, the thinking, the emotions, and the relationships that accompany it. The meetings offer a closer look at how art is created and, most importantly, who creates it.
      •
  • The meetings are open to everyone, from people working professionally in culture and art, to those who are curious about artists and their work, or simply want to talk about art.
    • We do our best to make the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art accessible to everyone  we would like to adapt the event to you and your needs. To help us do that, please contact our accessibility coordinator: dostepnosc@u-jazdowski.pl, no later than the Monday before the event.
