Vaporware

  • The realizations presented in the exhibition result from the didactic activities carried out in the 3d and Virtual Events Studio II of the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, as well as the autonomous explorations of artistic individuals. They are works in process, advanced sketches or prototypes that are brought to the Castle from the safe space of the university.

  • Ujazdowski becomes a kind of hub, an interface for testing with the audience, checking the validity of the media used, the tensions built or the nature of the interaction. The title of the exhibition is a term applied to software or electronic equipment, the work on which has not been completed, although the deadline declared by the manufacturer has been far exceeded. It is also a perverse reference to the nature of the realization (vaporware is used as a derogatory term for software or hardware that is promised, but does not appear for a very long time or never) - innovative concepts of artistic individuals require the development of a new methodology, the combination of tools or their production. Their form is transitional, strategies transform, morph in their ephemeral and unstable nature referring to the rendering process. The presented works presuppose an exchange between artistic persons and the public, manifested in the assumption of active participation of visitors to the space through authorial interaction projects.

  • The nature of the 3d and Virtual Events Studio II is oriented towards the exploration of the phenomena of digital culture, the differences and points of convergence between physicality and virtuality, the phenomenon of phantomatics, the extensive development of artificial intelligence and the consequences that follow. The main issues are the construction of new types of narratives implemented in virtual space and attempts to achieve unique aesthetic values, both in terms of visuality, sound values and building aesthetics of presence in digital projects. Recent research directions are moving towards finding bridges, connectors and binders between intangible, ephemeral digital phenomena and haptic and physical displays of projects.
