Guided tour of the exhibition
We invite you to a curator-led tour of the exhibition What We Talk About When We Talk About Crimea
What do we talk about when we talk about Crimea? The sea or the steppe? The Yalta Conference of 1945 or the Scythian state? The Artek pioneer camp or the Soviet genocide of the Crimean Tatars? Indigenous peoples or the casus belli of the war currently unfolding in Europe? Experiences of the Crimean Peninsula can vary so greatly that it may seem as if people are speaking about entirely different continents. Why is that?
The exhibition presents reflections by contemporary Ukrainian artists, including Crimean Tatar artists, on the feeling of loss following Russia’s occupation of the peninsula in 2014. The participants represent different generations: those who were born in Crimea and those for whom Crimea forms part of their travel experience.
