Magda Kordylasińska-Pękala Jürg Frey

Three Underground Spaces
  • Magda Kordylasińska-Pękala will perform on January 16 within Erik Smith’s installation Three Spaces Underground, located in the so-called technical corridor in the castle’s underground spaces. She will present her own improvisations as well as Jemandem bei einer Tätigkeit zuhören by Jürg Frey, one of the composers associated with the Wandelweiser collective. As the title suggests, the piece is an abstract play on the idea of listening to the environmentin this case, listening to someone doing something.

    • Magda Kordylasińska-Pękala is a percussionist specializing in chamber and solo performance of 20th- and 21st-century music. She collaborates with Miłosz Pękala, with whom she forms the percussion duo Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala, as well as with the quartet Kwadrofonik, the contemporary music ensemble Chain Ensemble led by the eminent cellist Andrzej Bauer, Hashtag Ensemble, and Mitch & Mitch con il loro gruppo eterofonico. In her work, she focuses on time, space, and sound and their interrelations. She engages with contemplative contemporary and avant-garde compositions that combine minimalism and silence with complex sound textures. She is fascinated by explorations of timbre and techniques that go beyond traditional performance forms. She seeks to understand and bring out emotional depth from sparse structures and textures, allowing each sound to fully exist (more: Wikipedia).
