What are the possible futures of cultural institutions?
A workshop on speculative design for culture
-
What are the possible futures of cultural institutions? asks Dr. Ewa Drygalska, a cultural studies scholar and expert on new technologies in museums and cultural institutions.
-
As part of the project Can Afrofuturism Teach Us Something? U–jazdowski is hosting a workshop on speculative design for culture. The workshop will be a space for creative thinking, inspiration, and experiments in the field of designing the future. We will try to go beyond cliché models to test possible scenarios of demographic, economic, and technological changes. Artifacts from the future will be created during the workshop.
- The workshop will consist of two parts:
- 1) a short theoretical introduction, during which we will present methods and a toolbox, as well as case studies of speculative projects;
- 2) a speculative workshop, during which we will use tools in practice and develop simple prototypes.
- Target audience
- Culture professionals interested in cultural research and education.
- Requirements
- An open mind and a willingness to draw / take notes and work in a group (we will work in teams of 4–5 people) are enough.
- Hosts
- Designer Katarzyna Janota (Grupa Robocza Foundation, www.grupa.robocza.org) and researcher Dr. Ewa Drygalska.
