The Way We Perform Now
Obieg magazine, performances, workshops, DJ, rave, bar
What do the visual arts and dance have in common? What can experimental choreography learn from the club culture? You will find answers to these questions at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw during The Way We Perform Now [Performans teraz] event, which is being organized to promote the new issue of Obieg magazine. Together with invited artists we will test the shift in the visual arts to performance and its impact on institutions.
You will also be able to see Laura Lima’s exhibition and join art talk, see a presentation of Marysia Stokłosa’s new project developed jointly with the visual artist Alicja Bielawska, walk backwards in the Botanic Garden with Alex Cecchetti, visit an unusual shoe shop with the artist Jean-Pascal Flavien, take part in a choreographic techno rave with Frédéric Gies and try the healing workshops by disco practice. There will be a concert of hits with Mathias Ringgenberg, a free-for-all warm-up with Marta Ziółek and a disco party with DJ sets created by Tancereczki (Paweł Sakowicz/Mateusz Szymanówka) and other artists.
Obieg magazine, published by the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art changed its format last year. This on-line, bilingual quarterly is interested in the humanities, most broadly defined. The theme of the current, fourth, issue is performance. You can read about changes in the traditional structure of the exhibition, which is being eclipsed by other forms combining the visual arts with performance art, literature and music. An article discusses the new role of the spectator, who is evolving into a performer and an active participant.
The new issue of Obieg is a sort of a manifesto written in the context of both the history of this institution, and new technologies and changes underway in artistic practices, under the influence of presentations of live art in gallery spaces.
We invite you to read the new issue and to take part in its special performative promotion from 29 June to 2 July.
