Minimising Transformation Needs

Mateusz Hadaś, Marcin Pietrucin
  • Marcin Pietrucin
    • born in 2003 in Olsztyn, he is a graduate of the Faculty of Photography at the University of the Arts in Poznań (2025), currently continuing his studies at the Institute of Intermedia. A member of the Artistic Sports Association, within which he has co-organised activities at the University of the Arts in Poznań, SKALA Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, among others. In his practice, he probes the moments when reality begins to come undone when the façade of a situation cracks, revealing the tensions beneath. He uses humour and absurdity as tools for testing both institutional and personal structures, allowing him to find gaps in their seemingly stable forms. Working with film, photography, objects and performative actions, he responds to extant spaces and their protocols. He is interested in works that demand to be seen and in the role of the artist as an initiator someone who creates the conditions in which something can occur.

  • Photography is the starting point for my work, which I subject to digital and physical transformations that detach it from its original contexts and functions. My practice examines the phenomenon of art increasingly simulating itself replicating market strategies, aesthetic formulas and gestures resulting from institutional expectations. I also investigate illegibility as a mechanism for constructing the appearance of depth and significance a tool through which art can generate an aura of meaning irrespective of content. My works constitute an attempt to analyse the visual system of institutional and market self-reproduction.
