Adelina Cimochowicz
Utrata / Loss, or the History of a Long-held Mistake
When a stranger appears among a small group, the previously certain and well-defined situation turns tense. The apparent calm can turn into a conflict, and an ordinary encounter into a confrontation. Will the newcomer be accepted or will she cause antagonism? The new work by Adelina Cimochowicz, exhibited in the Project Room space of Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, is a three-channel video installation – a recording of a staged situation based on an original script. The artist creates a study of social interactions and looks at how individual experiences shape our attitudes towards others and determine our place within a group. Do displaced feelings affect the connections we build? In her work, Adelina Cimochowicz focuses on everyday fears, repressed emotions, and body–mediated communication between people.
Project Room is a space presenting the work created by young Polish artists. All exhibitions present new material prepared exclusively for this space. This season, an installation by Kornelia Dzikowska and an exhibition by Jan Baszak have already been shown, and until the end of the series, you will be able to see work by Piotr Bruch, Sebastian Sebulec, and Marek Wodzisławski.
