After the Crisis
Before traveling to Argentina, the duo Graw Böckler in collaboration with Paulina Jeziorek, prepared a series of questions regarding the country’s crisis in 2001, which were then asked to Argentinian friends. How did they manage without money? Did they encounter violence? What did their creative work look like at the time? Have their lives changed permanently? Did the crisis influence their political views? Did it impact their relationships or family matters? These questions and answers were used to implement the video What Will Be The State After Bankruptcy? Upon their return, the authors asked their European friends about their opinions, premonitions and concerns regarding the looming crisis in Europe. It was through this progressional process that the next video Before State Bankruptcy arose. Both works will be a part of the exhibition After the Crisis, implemented within the frames of {Bank Pekao Project Room} at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, where there will be an opportunity to see Janusz Łukowicz’s neon work Crisis.
Moreover, a performance with the participation of the artists will carried out at the opening, August 26th at 7:00 p.m., during which Argentinians will answer questions displayed to them on a screen. Adding to the performative context will be DJ Vomitarium – the Argentinean artist Candi Saenz Valiente.
“Seeing that a serious financial and economic crisis is approaching Europe, we thought about Argentina, which went bankrupt in 2001. Many people lost everything during this unfortunate time, and the economic system completely collapsed. We decided to take advantage and learn from Argentina’s example in order to better prepare for what may come.”
