Karolina Mełnicka

Success Story

An exhibition by Karolina Mełnicka at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art is the artist’s reflection on the ethos of creativity and its relations with business.

Success Story is the kind of participatory performance whose only actors are its viewers. Thanks to the artist, the space of Project Room becomes a specific co-working space where the participants can only experience the demotivation associated with the overproduction of ideas or the irrationality of work. They can watch an animation consisting of a variety of never completed projects of products whose lives have ended in just a three-dimensional visualization, or can read a newspaper consisting of a text that someone wrote just to make a fashionable pattern on a fabric, or sit between plastic sculptures made of the rubble of gentrified buildings.

This is the fifth edition of this year’s Project Room. As part of this series, the works of emerging Polish artists are presented at U–jazdowski. All exhibitions have been prepared especially for this space. This year we have already seen projects by Grzegorz Stefański, Maria Toboła, Weronika Gęsicka and Ania Nowak. There are two exhibitions left for this year; by Karolina Mełnicka and Karolina Babińska. From among all this year’s projects, an international jury will select the two best exhibitions and award them a First Prize of 20,000 PLN and a Second Prize of 10,000 PLN. The winners will be announced in January 2019.
