Open Meeting

Warsaw Water Retreat

At the conclusion of Warsaw Water Retreat, we invite you to an open discussion reflecting on this year’s edition of the event. The Retreat is a ten-day gathering rooted in the processual and relational practice of the artist residency programme at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. Its point of departure is water understood not only as a resource, but also as a medium of relations, flow, and regeneration. The programme explores practices of renewal that extend beyond a human-centred perspective, approaching regeneration as a process that encompasses ecosystems, landscapes, and more-than-human communities. The Retreat takes place within the framework of the Mensch Maschine project, which critically examines the relationships between humans, machines, and the environment.

During the event, artists-in-residence from Akademie der Künste and E-WERK Luckenwalde Sepideh Behruzian, Edgar Fabián Frías, Phumulani Ntuli, and Flora Weil will present the artistic practices they have been developing as part of Mensch Maschine.

Above all, however, the gathering will be a moment for collective reflection. After ten days of intensive exchange and process, Retreat participants will meet with the public to consider together how water has shaped their thinking about technology, ecology, and more-than-human communities. The open discussion will provide an opportunity to reflect on care as a practice of restoring disrupted relationships between organisms, technologies, and environments.
