Jurgen Ots (Belgium)
Jurgen Ots
visual artist born in 1978 in Belgium. He graduated from Sint-Lukas University College of Art and received his MA of Fine Arts degree in 2006. His work, lingering on the border between sculpture, installation and (Xerox-) printing, is generated under the Alchemist motto 'Solve et Coagula', literarily meaning dissolve and coagulate, or even more simple; to break down (in smaller parts) and re- assemble (into a new greater whole). Through repetitive actions and extensive ways of manipulation he is exploring the boundaries of the image.
His recent solo exhibitions include: Periaqueductal grey, Elisa Platteau, Brussels; La porte de l'enfer, Elisa Platteau, Brussels; Denoting Frenzy, Etablissement d'en face projects, Brussels. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including: ReMap4, Athens; Rainbow juice at The Helper in New York; Celluloid Brushes at Gallery Isabella Bortolozzi in Berlin; A world bound in secret knots at Giuliani Foundation in Rome and Show me, don't tell me, Brussels Biennal 1 curated by Witte de With, Brussels.
During residency Jurgen Ots worked on his new project in collaboration with Galeria Stereo. His work was also later presented in 2015 at kurz / dust / غبار exhibition at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art.
