Mariam Elnozahy

a curator, an archivist, and a cultural manager based in Cairo at the Townhouse Gallery. She focuses primarily on critical, community-based work and seeks to promote Egyptian contemporary artistic practices.In 2017, Mariam Elnozahy ran the Rewriting Criticism programme, a year-long writing-intensive school which aimed to widen the scope of art criticism in a field under strenuous socio-political circumstances. She is also the founder of the Open Index Archive, an open-source platform for contemporary art documentation in Egypt. Mariam Elnozahy graduated with honours from Barnard College of Columbia University with a degree in history.

As part of Re–Directing: East Designing Futures curatorial residencies, Mariam Elnozahy took part in the East European–North African–Middle East Forum on 9 June 2019 at Biennale Warszawa.

This residency is realised as part of a long-term project Re-Directing: East organised by the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, this year in collaboration with Biennale Warszawa.
This residency is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland and the City of Warsaw.
