Jazdów City Garden

Sporty

This season, the theme of Jazdów City Garden is physical culture. The immediate vicinity of the castle will be adjusted to facilitate physical activity. It will include badminton and volleyball courts, and area for frisbee and parkour as well as street gap, cutting the Stanislavian Axis Street, for skateboarding. Sporty is not only about physicality, but also and above all about artistic activities that utilize sport as a tool to look at social tensions. Is sport conducive to integration or, on the contrary, does it divide into those that are able-bodied and those that are debilitated, provoke disputes and isolate the subcultures of urban athletes? Can art evoke similarly strong emotions as sport does? Or hack its methods for its own purposes? Or perhaps conversely, art will be seized by sport, breaking its routine?

There will be many unconventional disciplines under the program of Jazdów City Garden Sporty. An artistic duo from Italy, Franco Ariaudo and Emanuele De Donno, will propose an unusual race, Cubo Race, in which everyone will be able to participate. Teams of players will have to balance cubes on sticks while racing to the finish line as quickly as possible. Participants of workshops with a fashion designer will design unique costumes for themselves, which they will be able to wear during the race, making the event even more spectacular. Cube Race is a game created for the television show Giochi senza Frontiere (French Jeux Sans Frontiers, English Games Without Borders), which was first played on the Italian beach of Riccione in 1971. Ariaudo and Donno analyze the phenomenon of this television show, appearing in various European countries between 1960 and 1990. The idea behind these shows, apart from the titled sports without barriers, was to build a European community. Will Cube Race contribute to building a Jazdów community?

Norbert Delman will invite for a game of battleships, wherein the masts drawn on sheets of paper will be replaced by living people. A team of artists will play against a team of the employees of an art institution. The game will take place inside as well as outside the castle: one team will be inside the courtyard and the other in the park in front of the castle. How will the siege of Ujazdowski end?

There will also be a possibility to participate in the virtual interactive mobile game Performance Encourager, created by Mark van de Watering and Karina Beumer, dedicated to the park space in front of the castle. Through the application, you will have access to tasks and solving them will stimulate physical activity and movement around the castle. Thanks to it, we will also be able to recreate certain artistic actions from the history of the Centre for Contemporary Art. Let us discover the performance potential of this unique place.

Under the open sky, on sun loungers and hammocks, every Saturday of July (at 10:00 p.m.) and August (at 9:30 p.m.) you will be able to watch movies from a rich collection of sports films in the summer cinema. The presented titles include Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait a film that is a record of a football match. You will be able to become Zidane for 90 minutes and experience the game from his perspective. Zbigniew Cybulski will appear on the screen in Mexico Tomorrow and Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
