Celebration of the Small and Personal in the Time of Bigness
Catalogue of Jonas Mekas's retrospective exhibition Celebration of the Small and Personal in the Age of Bigness, which was on view at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in 2006. Jonas Mekas (1922–2019) was the most prominent Lithuanian artist active in the USA. From the 1960s, he remained a leading figure on the New York scene of avant-garde film. The artist combined the work of a filmmaker and poet with the duties of an activist – he founded the first cooperative of independent filmmakers in the United States, Anthology Film Archives, which is still operating today. He was also an active critic and founder of the avant-garde film periodical Film Culture.
