How to talk about creative work

Information Session and Debate on the Social Security Act for Artists
  • In May of this year, after over a decade of continuous efforts and community advocacy, a new act was passed to fill a long-standing gap in the social security system. It provides artists and cultural workers with a dedicated contribution system tailored to the specific nature of their work, granting them full access to social protection.

    • Mapping the needs that shaped this legislation was the result of a long process of recognizing artistic work as actual labor. At the same time, the language we use to discuss it is still evolving, and the public discourse is often filled with inaccurate information on the subject.
  • The meeting will consist of two parts: in the first, we will explore the inner workings of the system and the proposed act, while debunking popular myths that have grown around it. In the second part, we will discuss how to talk about creating a dedicated tax and contribution system for the creative industry, as well as social security for artists.
