Join us for the 71 st Flaherty Film Seminar | Warsaw Pod, taking place October 8–11 at the U–jazdowski Cinema at the Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, presented in collaboration with the AMATOR Film and Education Association.
- “This year's program Gestures of Refusal, will delve into images that resist disintegration: works that excavate what empire and erasure have buried beneath systems, structures, and the surfaces of images themselves. Through fragmentation, recollection, and archival intervention, this year’s program will explore how memory is constructed, displaced, or reclaimed.” (The Flaherty)

- The Flaherty Film Seminar is an internationally acclaimed film presentation initiative with a rich and long-standing history. Founded in 1954 by Frances Flaherty, widow of the legendary American documentary filmmaker Robert Flaherty (director of “Nanook of the North”), it has been held annually ever since. Over the course of several days, filmmakers, critics, academics, and film enthusiasts gather to watch films together and engage in deep discussions. The “non-preconception” rule applies: participants do not know what they will be watching, as the entire program and invited artists remain a secret until the screenings begin.
- The program Gestures of Refusal of the 71st edition of the Flaherty Film Seminar, will be presented simultaneously in just a few locations around the world, as part of the Flaherty Pods initiative. This initiative brings the experience of this prestigious event to local communities - in the U.S.A, Argentina, Thailand, and Poland - creating an inclusive space for discussion around carefully selected films.
- Participants engage with cinema within their local context while connecting to a global dialogue. The Warsaw Pod offers professionally curated screenings with Polish subtitles, as well as inspiring discussions led by curators, artists, and scholars. Registration includes access to seven unique film programs presented over four days.
