Lingui is one of the few African films to make it to the Cannes festival competition, and another magnificent work by the extraordinary director from Chad, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, which has enraptured the critics.

Amina lives in the sun-baked outskirts of the capital of Chad, N'Djamena, where she raises 15-year-old Maria alone. Every day is a struggle to give the daughter a better life than that of the mother, who works hard for a fragile stability. But one day and one message are enough for their world to collapse like a house of cards. Maria is pregnant and she wants an abortion. In a country where terminating a pregnancy is both a sin and a crime, helping the desperate daughter is extremely risky. Will Amina pick up a fight that seems outright lost?
