All Will Be Well [Wszystko będzie dobrze]

directed by Tomasz Wiszniewski, Poland 2007, 98'

Teenage Paweł (Adam Werstak) is a talented athlete from a poor seaside town. When he learns that his mother is terminally ill and can only count on a miracle, he decides to make a deal with the Virgin Mary. If he runs to the Jasna Góra shrine, his mother will recover. He is followed by a gym teacher (Robert Więckiewicz), who is threatened with dismissal due to alcohol abuse.

All Will Be Well is another Polish film that puts the child protagonist at the centre of the story. It amazes with the director’s tenderness in portraying a child’s trust and hope which – although seemingly naïve and ill-suited to the reality of the adult world – can prove a lifesaver in the most difficult moments.

The official premiere of All Will Be Well took place at the Gdynia Film Festival, where the film was awarded for best director, best music and best actor for Robert Więckiewicz, who received the Polish Film Award a few months later.
