{Live} – Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

How can we create spaces for identities that elude established categories? How can sound, new media and speculation help us imagine other ways of being and coexisting? These are some of the questions we will explore during a conversation with Ernest Borowski, part of the {Live} series, on 2 September.

Ernest Borowski is a queer interdisciplinary artist and researcher whose practice unfolds at the intersection of new media, sound, performance and speculative narrative.

Borowski’s work explores dispersed and polyvocal identities, as well as queer ways of existing beyond linear models of subjectivity and production. The artist is interested in dismantling established identity categories and normative systems, drawing on forms of anti-productivity and fragmentation, as well as posthumanist and feminist methodologies.

In his practice, he brings together materiality and virtuality, creating immersive environments that serve as spaces for experimenting with attention, affect, and the coexistence of human and more-than-human beings. Using speculative methods, he imagines alternative futures that challenge dominant narratives – futures in which embodiment and technology co-create new forms of knowledge and being.

During the conversation, we will discuss his artistic practice, queer methodologies, the politics of sensitivity, and the search for worlds that extend beyond hegemonic culture.

Ernest Borowski’s work has been presented at, among others, Warsaw Gallery Weekend, Pawilon in Poznań, Galeria Arsenał in Białystok, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Silent Green in Berlin, and the Unsound Festival in Kraków. He has also composed music and created visual elements for performances presented at venues including Sophiensaele in Berlin, Łaźnia Nowa Theatre in Kraków, Komuna Warszawa, and Wrocław Contemporary Theatre.

• • Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences. 
    • We host both artists who have previously taken part in Ujazdowski Castle’s programme and those making their debut. In this series, we would like to focus on individual approaches and artistic practices. 
• Why take part?   
  • The events will be recorded for archival purposes, and the recordings will be made available online through the Mediateka. 
    • In times of tensions and crises, thinking and talking together about contemporary art – which responds to today’s challenges in unconventional ways – helps strengthen social resilience. Art is not only the object – just as important are the process, the thinking, the emotions, and the relationships that accompany it. The meetings offer a closer look at how art is created and, most importantly, who creates it.
