Art & Migration

featuring Firoozeh Bazrafkan, Miriam Elia and Tasleem Mulhall

Tasleem Mulhall

born in Yemen to an Indian mother and Yemeni father. Discribing herself as a British-Yemeni artist, she is a sculptor, painter and photographer who lives and works in London.

Firoozeh Bazrafkan

born in Iran in 1982 and studied visual arts at the Jutland Art Academy. With her Danish-Iranian background, she has stood out as a rare figure in the Danish art world and her works have contributed a new voice to the art scene there, and the ongoing public debate. Firoozeh Bazrafkan has, with great courage, stubbornness and curiosity, created her own space in contemporary art – as a visual artist and opinion former, and her works have produced many different reactions in the Danish and international media landscapes.

Miriam Elia

British artist and broadcaster, who wrote and starred in the comedy sketch show A Series of Psychotic Episodes. With her brother Ezra Elia, she also rote We Go to the Gallery, a satire on modern art in the form of a Ladybird Books.

Agnieszka Kołek

artist, curator and co-founder of the Passion for Freedom Art Festival in London. Through supporting artists forbidden to exhibit their art, she exposes the silence of many and challenges the comfortable position of those who inhibit “safe spaces”.

Manick Govinda

born in Mauritius. His family emigrated to London, UK in 1965 where he grew up and lived, until recently moving to the south east coast of England. Govinda is a writer, curator, creative producer and artists mentor. He has worked as a creative producer for many artists who emigrated from their home country to Europe/UK including internationally acclaimed artists such as 2007 Turner Prize shortlisted artist Zarina Bhimji, 2022 Venice Biennale representative for France Zineb Sedira and Paul Hamlyn Foundation Awardee Larry Achiampong, to name a few.
