Natalia LL
full name: Natalia Lach-Lachowicz (born in 1937), works in such artistic fields as photography, performance, experimental films, video, installations, sculpture, printmaking, painting. In 1957-1963 she studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 1970-1981, together with Andrzej Lachowicz, Zbigniew Dłubak and Antoni Dzieduszycki she founded and ran Wrocław’s legendary Permafo gallery that promoted artistic photomedialism and the idea of permanent photography. The gallery’s name was a kind of an art manifesto itself. It comes from the words permanent formalisation. In 1972, the artist wrote:
Art becomes real in every moment of reality; each fact, each second is unique for a human being and can never be repeated. This is why I record common, trivial events such as: eating, sleeping, copulating, resting, pronouncing.
Since 1975, she participated in feminist movement exhibitions in Western countries. She received scholarships from the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York (1977), Verein Kulturkontakte in Vienna (1991) and Pro Helvetia (1994). Commissioner and vice-president of the International Drawing Triennale in Wrocław (1978-1995). In 2004-2013, lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (currently renamed to University of Arts). In 2007, she received the Gloria Artis Silver Medal for Merit to Culture. In 2012, she obtained the Katarzyna Kobro Award at the Muzeum Sztuki (Art Museum) in Łódź. Her artworks can be found in many art collections worldwide, such as: Musée National d'Art Moderne Centre Pompidou in Paris, International Center of Photography in New York, Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, National Museum in Warsaw, National Museum in Wrocław, Muzeum Lubelskie in Lublin, Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko and Frauen Museum in Bonn. In 2015 Natalia LL will take part in several important, international shows: My Body is the Event. Vienna Actionism and International Performance at the MUMOK Museum of Modern Art, Vienna (27.02-15.08.2015), International Pop at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis (11.04-6.09.2015) that afterwards will be presented at the Museum of Art in Dallas and the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, as well as The World Goes Pop at Tate Modern in London (17.09.2015-24.01.2016).
