Saxophone Choir
-
Saxophone Choir was founded on the initiative of British saxophonist Ray Dickaty, basing on the large saxophone section that forms part of the Warsaw Improvisers Orchestra (WIO), which he leads. The idea behind WIO was to pay tribute to its greatest inspirations: Pharoah Sanders, Peter Brötzmann and Albert Ayler. It was the work of these artists that formed the core of the concert programme and served as the starting point for intense improvisations. The ensemble features a large saxophone section ranging from soprano to bass.
- The concert is a collaboration between the choir and percussionist and composer Paal Nilssen-Love. The event will include, among other pieces, his compositions from the repertoire of the Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit.
- In 2026, Saxophone Choir worked on original material, which was recorded in early March at Polish Radio Studio S2. The recording featured Ray Dickaty (tenor sax), Maciej Rodakowski (tenor sax), Jan Małkowski (alto sax), Michał Małota (alto-tenor sax), Misza Kinsner (bass sax), Stanisław Welbel (soprano-alto sax) and Tadeusz Cieślak (tenor sax). Ksawery Wójciński (double bass) and Teo Olter (drums) joined Saxophone Choir in the studio.
-
At the upcoming concert, the saxophonists mentioned above will be joined by a rhythm section comprising Kamila Drabek (double bass) and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums).
