God and Dust

Part One

God and Dust is a series of experimental shows at the intersection of performance art, music, and visual arts, based on an original theatre play by Tomasz Man. Rendered in the form of audio theatre – an attempt to translate the traditional format of radio drama into the live stage – the show will feature Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Mariusz Bonaszewski, and Sambor Dudziński.

In 2022, six premieres will be presented at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. Each part undertakes to reinterpret familiar motifs from the Old Testament. God and Dust is the story of man who, having been expelled from paradise, seeks to reach an understanding with his creator. The play raises questions about the origins of religions, the circumstances and conditions in which monotheistic religion developed, the way in which the dogmas of the faith were established.

God and Dust: Part One features Eden, Eve and Adam, Cain and Abel, and Noah – each of the scenes referring to these biblical narratives includes a “culinary” element. Eden evokes a forbidden fruit, though it is not clear exactly what. Cain and Abel stand for a sacrifice of wheat and olive oil. Noah is the flood, but also – guess it – wine. On stage, using various musical and visual equivalents, the artists will try to evoke such associations, stimulating the audience’s perceptions and emotions. The spectator will be able to hear, feel, and see. Intuitively and intensely. Sound objects – specially wired tables, props, and actors’ voices – will serve as instruments.
