performative residencies

Mohamed Almusibli and Nils Amadeus Lange

in a residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

In the summer of 2020, Mohamed Almusibli and Nils Amadeus Lange – who work in Switzerland – will participate in a residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. The practice of both artists is situated at the intersection of performing and visual arts.

In his work, Mohamed Almusibli combines the theory of art, sculpture, installations, sound-art and performative activities while looking for a visual language for the poetry he creates. Last year, Almusibli won the Swiss Art Award and was nominated for the Helvetia Art Prize. Almusibli deals with the subject of love and death as well as the experience of war. During his six-month residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, he has been working on the issue of "social death."

Nils Amadeus Lange is interested in queering museum collections and performing archives. His works are full of humour, the grotesque as well as kitsch. Lange often works interdisciplinary and collectively – he was one of the co-founders of the Young Boy Dancing Group, which participated in the Venice Biennale and the Manifesta in Zurich. During his research residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Lange will work on the last edition of the To Be Real # 4 project – devoted to the ongoing emancipation of club cultures – together with Sebastian Sebulec and the Oramics collective. The public display of their activities is scheduled for 8 August 2020.
