Nobody Is Afraid To Die​

Łukasz Surowiec

(born in 1985) An interdisciplinary artist, sculptor, performer and video artist that creates installations in public space; graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Between 2007–2009, the artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and the Universität der Künste in Berlin from 2009 to 2010. He received a grant from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for 2008–2009. Surowiec has participated in many solo as well as group exhibitions, amongst others: As You Can See: Polish Art Today (Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, 2014); Dziady (Bunkier Sztuki , Kraków 2013 ); Air de Pologne (De Garage, Mechelen, Belgium, 2012). As a participant in the VII Berlin Biennial, he implemented the project Berlin-Birkenau, which refers to the responsibility and memory of history. In his artistic search, he often takes a look at the functioning of those who have been socially marginalized (a video series Happy New Year), and he also designs social – artistic solutions. Surowiec is an artist that employs art as a kind of research tool of the world at large – allowing for its better use.
