Turnip Lanterns in Ujazdowski Park
The workshop introduces participants to the Swiss winter tradition of making turnip lanterns. Those who find the patience to immerse in this slow process will feel rewarded at the magical moment of lighting their lantern for the first time. The light settles into the carved surface and reveals the final form of your creation. The gesture echoes elements of Oz Oderbolz’s artistic work, which often engages with inherited customs and the ways they continue to circulate through shared actions.
The workshop concludes with a walk through the castle park. The lanterns create a gentle brightness in the early evening, carried by the group as a moment of togetherness. The tradition becomes a brief, collective memory held in the movement through the winter landscape.
The day after St. Nicolas’ day, we invite all residents of Warsaw, both big and small, to a joyful event in the Laboratory at Ujazdowski Castle.
Artists currently in residence at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art have prepared three creative workshops, during which participants will be able to experiment, build, sculpt, and play with language.
Workshops inspired by poetry and Warsaw will offer an opportunity to collectively create, meet others and have fun. They accompany the Nobody Reads This Art Book Fair and the opening of the new bookstore at Ujazdowski Castle.
Participants may join the entire event or selected parts.
