Ania Nowak (Poland/Germany)

Ania Nowak

Her choreographic practice approaches vulnerability and desire as ways towards reimagining what bodies and language can do. She researches love as a strategy of generating knowledge with a focus on affective economies of care and companionship, and redefining sensuality. Her works have been presented at Sophiensaele and Akademie der Künste in Berlin; Nowy Teatr, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art and Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Art Stations Foundation in Poznań; National Center of Dance in Bucharest; Arts Santa Mónica in Barcelona and Kulturhuset in Stockholm, a.o. Nowak graduated from Dance/ Context/ Choreography at HZT Berlin. She lives and works in Berlin.

In Ohne Titel 3 Ania Nowak wonders about ways of giving up our attachment to prescribed categories and binary oppositions, such as thought/feeling, matter/emotion, pleasure/pain, private/common, erudite/popular, etc. Through her performance, Nowak approaches disciplines of consent and rhythms of anger in late capitalism. She studies language, kiss and breath as means of communication. Collaborators: Dusty Whistles, Jayson Patterson, Agata Siniarska, Ola Osowicz.

Performative residency realised as part of "Feedback: giving and assuming form" project in collaboration with the Institute of Music and Dance and the team of researchers of "Cartographies of Otherness" directed by prof. Magdalena Środa
