Digital access to the audiovisual and multimedia collections of FINA and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

The National Film Archive Audiovisual Institute FINA, in partnership with the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, is implementing a project entitled Immersion in Culture. Digital Access to the Audiovisual and Multimedia Collections of FINA and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, which has received funding under the European Funds for Digital Development 20212027 programme, Action FERC.02.03 Digital Accessibility and Reuse of Information.

The aim of the project is to improve the accessibility, security, and management of the film and multimedia collections of FINA and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. As a result, users will gain convenient access to materials online, while the institutions will benefit from modern tools for processing and sharing them.

Key tasks carried out under the project:

  • •Comprehensive processing and sharing of 400,000 digital objects.
  • •Digitization of 43,544 items, including films, photographs, multimedia works, and contextual documents.
  • •Development of the FINA Collections Catalogue Portal, offering remote access to collections with interfaces tailored to different user groups, including people with special needs.
  • •Implementation of AI, OCR, machine learning, and automatic transcription tools for data processing.
  • •Modernization of FINA’s collection management systems and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art's Digital Inventory.
  • •Implementation of immersive technologies: 3D scanning, VR, AR, and spherical film.
  • •Staff training in digital data protection and processing.

 

Planned project outputs:

  • FINA Collections Catalogue Portal the main platform for accessing resources.
  • FINA Access and Export Systems automation of legal deposit handling and data exchange with external databases.
  • Integrated AI/OCR modules within the FINA Collection Management System.
  • New, personalized user interfaces.
  • Modifications and expansion of FINA’s and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art’s digital infrastructure.
  • Digital documentation of Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art’s works using new technologies.
  • Comprehensive conservation documentation and digitization of selected contemporary artworks.

Immersion in Culture is a project of strategic importance for the dissemination of cultural resources in Poland and abroad. It will not only increase the accessibility and protection of archives, but also enhance their practical value for education, scholarly research, artistic creation, and public institutional activity.

The project is being developed through the collaboration of two institutions combining their experience, resources, and knowledge to jointly digitize and make collections accessible in a modern way.
