4 rooms (and a half) concert – Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

4 rooms (and a half) – 4 spaces – 4 elements – 4 musical acts by Hashtag Ensemble amid the space of Laura Lima’s exhibition A Room and a Half are the fruit of the group’s collaboration with composers of the young generation as well as inspiration stemming from visual contemporary art. The concert will inaugurate the residence of Mikołaj Majkusiak, Polish composer of the young generation, in the Hashtag Ensemble in the 2017/2018 season.

Amidst the space of Laura Lima’s exhibition, we will hear Żywioły for the saxophone and accordion in the daring interpretation of Paweł Janas and Wojciech Psiuk. The artist’s works will also be interpreted by oneiric permeations of acoustic and electronic sounds, performed by Marta Grzywacz and Krzysztof Kozłowski. Hashtag Ensemble is also planning unexpected performative performances inside the exhibition space with the audience.

Within the frames of the group’s collaboration with the Composer, the pieces of the Resident will resound in a dialogue with the visual arts at the Ujazdowski Castle – Centre for Contemporary Art, and they shall find fresh interpretations in a performance by young musicians from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music during a concert from Studium Muzyki Nowej, and the concluding concert of the residence will honor the first premiere performance of the dedication "Crossover Concerto" for 13 performers at the Warsaw Music Meetings Festival 2018.

The performance as well as premiere of Mikołaj Majkusiak's pieces are possible due to co-financing from the Institute of Music and Dance "Composer – resident" program. The "Composer-resident" program, initiated by the Institute of Music and Dance, refers to the widespread practice in Europe and world of linking artists with professional music institutions.
