Channelers
Channelers is a six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) VR experience set in a speculative Eastern European city during the Communist era. Participants explore a Brutalist-Modernist housing complex from which there appears to be no escape. As they enter into a relationship with a non-human intelligence, they navigate the building's corridors, where concrete walls become portals to supernatural phenomena.
Rooted in dreamcore aesthetics and combining supernatural phenomena with an anthropological approach and first-hand accounts from individuals who have experienced close encounters of the first and third kind, Channelers offers a deeply transformative escape from reality. The project explores the boundaries between agency, narrative, and mechanics of care and empathy, placing participants in distinctive environments populated by objects designed by leading Polish designers of the Communist era.
The work is based on the research of Polish ufologists Bronisław Rzepecki and Krzysztof Piechota and was developed in collaboration with Mateusz Kijewski, a historian specialising in the history of UFO/UAP phenomena and the creator of Poland's largest channel dedicated to the subject, Kanał o UFO (Sekielski Brothers Studio).
The project was developed as part of the prestigious Biennale College Cinema Immersive programme.
