Residents in U–jazdowski: meeting with Mirna Bamieh and Karolina Grzywnowicz
artists taking part in the Everyday Forms of Resistance:
- We would like to invite you to meet this seasons U–jazdowski residents on Monday, September 9, at 12:00 at the Workspace (U–jazdowski main building, ground floor). On this occasion two of our current artists-in-residence will present their practices and ongoing projects. Mirna Bamieh (Palestine) is a performer and chef from Jerusalem. Karolina Grzywnowicz (Poland) is a visual artist whose practice is based on research using archival materials, interviews and oral accounts. Both artists are taking part in the project entitled Everyday Forms of Resistance
- During her stay in U–jazdowski Karolina Grzywnowicz utilizes materials brought from her residency period in Palestine, primarily songs sung in refugee camps which speak of the moment of exile. She is also working on a project which inscribes plants in a social and political context that is saturated with violence.
- After receiving her culinary diploma, Mirna Bamieh began to implement the socially engaged projects Potato Talks and Palestine Hosting Society, in which she uses food as an artistic medium. During her residency in Poland Mirna develops a project around the concept of conservation and fermentation, which she treats not only as a culinary practice, but also as a social metaphor related to colonialism, death or sexuality. We further invite you to take part in a public culinary workshop, to be held in the middle of September.
