12th Warsaw CI FLOW International Dance Festival

The Warsaw CI FLOW International Dance Festival has been creating a space for practicing improvisation with teachers from all over the world since 2010. The 12th edition of the festival is organized in an atmosphere of awakened sensitivity. Despite the extraordinary time of a global pandemic and many crises, the organizers want to enable the continuity of creative research and deepening the practice of contact improvisation. By listening to intuition, increasing self-awareness and deepening sensory perception, they want to support transformation at the level of the individual and group.

12th  Warsaw CI Flow will be held at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art and Łazienkowska Youth Culture Center, and the festival will consist of two parts. Between 16 and 22 August, the performance project Improvising Contact / Contact Improvisation will take place, addressed to people professionally involved in dance and performance. Under the watchful eye of the German choreographer and biologist Andrew Wass, the participants will prepare a performance that will be presented to a wider audience on Sunday, August 22nd at 8.00 p.m. in the W. Krukowski Hall at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art.

The workshop part of the festival will take place between 23rd and 28th August, open to people of all levels of experience. The program includes, among others an intensive workshop with Vega Luukkonen from Finland, a series of classes on somatics and composition with Isabelle Uski, site-specific workshops with Maria Stokłosa or classes on the culture of consent with Ali Schwartz. Each festival day will end with a jam, and in the breaks between classes, you will be able to explore the contact improvisation library to deepen your theoretical knowledge.

On the last day of the festival (August 28th), there will also be three free events open to the public. Between 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m., you will be able to watch site-specific activities in the outdoor space, at 4.00 p.m. there will be work sharing as part of the workshop with Isabelle Uski, and at 7.00 pm - performance jam with Iwona Olszowska. This is a great opportunity to experience contact improvisation from the viewer's perspective.

Co-financed by the Capital City of Warsaw and the Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture as part of the "Dance" program implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
