Simple Things
directed by Grzegorz Zariczny, Poland 2020, 84' (English friendly)
- Awarded at the prestigious Sundance festival, Grzegorz Zariczny is a director who boldly explores the boundary between documentary and fiction. In Simple Things, a tender story about searching for the foundations of life, he observes the authentic relationship between Błażej, Magda and their daughter Ala, introducing a catalyst in the form of a fictional uncle (Tomasz Schimscheiner), a brother of Błażej’s deceased father, who turns up to help the couple renovate their country house. This serves as a starting point to reflect on family relations and put a painful past in order. Zariczny skilfully clashes the bittersweetness of everyday life with the immensity of universal problems.
